Can registration cease?

A training organisation's registration may cease if:

  • The period of registration expires;
  • The Registered Training Organisation (RTO) wishes to cease its operation;
  • There are grounds to cancel registration due to non compliance with the AQTF Essential Conditions and Standards; or
  • The business is sold.

If an RTO's registration ceases, it will no longer be able to promote itself as being registered and must forward to the TAC Secretariat all students records.

When does registration expire?

If an RTO does not renew its registration before the five year registration period expires, its RTO status will cease. The RTO must ensure that the Client Qualification Register (CQR) is complete. Alternatively contact the Training Accreditation Council Secretariat to arrange for an electronic copy and hard copy of all student results, detailing Qualifications/Statements of Attainment granted and a list of competencies achieved by each student.

What if I want to cease operation?

An RTO can apply to the Council to relinquish its registration by completing a RTO6 Notification of Voluntary Relinquishment form. The Council requires RTOs who cease operation to ensure that all continuing students are catered for and not disadvantaged. The RTO must ensure that the Client Qualification Register (CQR) is complete. Alternatively contact the Training Accreditation Council Secretariat to arrange for an electronic copy and hard copy of all student results, detailing Qualifications/Statements of Attainment granted and a list of competencies achieved.

How can my registration be suspended or cancelled?

The Training Accreditation Council (the Council) acknowledges that Western Australian Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) have made a significant commitment to establishing and maintaining their obligations under the Vocational Education and Training Act 1996 (VET Act).  However, from time to time RTOs are identified as presenting a significant risk to the VET Sector due to their failure to comply with the AQTF Essential Conditions and Standards for Continuing Registration or meet other criteria required for registration with the Council under the VET Act.

The Training Accreditation Council's Policy and Procedure for the Applications of Sanctions outlines the grounds on which sanctions can be applied, the types of sanctions that the Council may apply to RTOs under the Act and the procedure for application of the sanctions. To view the policy please click on the above link.

What if my business is sold?

Registration cannot be transferred, sold or otherwise assigned to another individual, legal entity organisation. Registration is 'personal' to the legal entity that obtains it. It is not a transferable commodity or asset. A business may be bought or sold, but not the registration.

For further information, please refer to the Change of Legal Entity of an RTO
