Technical advisors

Technical advisors provide advice on current industry, regulatory or workplace requirements. They are consulted when the Training Accreditation Council (TAC) Secretariat needs expert industry advice to ensure that RTOs strategies for training and assessment meet industry requirements.

Technical advisors need to have current industry knowledge of:

  • workplace equipment requirements

  • industry practices, trends and issues

  • training requirements.

They also need to have current skills, experience and networks in the relevant industry area.

When attending audits, the technical advisors follow the instructions of the TAC lead auditor and only provide industry specialist advice during Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015 audits. They may be invited by the TAC Secretariat to participate in:

  • pre-audit briefings with TAC Secretariat staff and/or auditors

  • opening and closing meetings run by lead auditors for AQTF audits

  • discussions with lead auditors on issues arising from audits and follow-up activities

  • giving feedback to the TAC secretariat about the audit process.
