TAC Education Workshop

As part of its Education Program, TAC is pleased to offer its next FREE workshop opportunity in March - Assessment (Part 1) Design and Development of an Assessment System.

Assessment is a fundamental part of an RTO’s operations.  An assessment system includes not only the actual materials used directly in conducting assessment, but also policies, procedures and other supporting documents that inform the way assessment is conducted with an RTO.

This session forms Part One of a three part series on assessment to be conducted throughout 2018:

  • Part 1: Design and development of an assessment system;
  • Part 2: Designing assessment tools; and
  • Part 3: Assessment in practice.

Please note there is a maximum of 2 tickets per organisation.

Please email tac@des.wa.gov.au if you have any questions or specific dietary requirements.

2018 WA Training Awards

The Council is supporting the 2018 WA Training Awards, by sponsoring the WA Trainer of the Year category.

The Awards recognise and reward individuals and organisations that have excelled in vocational education and training (VET)  – from apprentices, trainees and vocational students, to training professionals, training providers and employers committed to the training and development of their staff.

There are a number of award categories and people and organisations from across Western Australia and from all areas of training are encouraged to nominate for the Awards.

The Council is proud to support the WA Trainer of the Year category and encourages all RTOs to promote the awareness of the Awards within their organisations and colleagues within the VET sector.

For more information or to register your interest, go online to dtwd.wa.gov.au/trainingawards, email trainingawards@dtwd.wa.gov.au or telephone (08) 6551 5608.

Nominations close on Friday 4 May 2018 and the Awards will be announced at a presentation ceremony to be held in Perth on Friday 28 September 2018.

The 2018 WA Training Awards are coordinated by the Department of Training and Workforce Development and the State Training Board.

National VET Data Policy

The new National VET Data Policy came into effect on 1 January 2018.

Recognising that some RTOs might need to make adjustments to their processes or student management systems, there is a transition period of 6 months. RTOs should endeavour to establish new arrangements as soon as practical but no later than 1 July 2018. RTOs may continue to operate under the previous Policy until they have new arrangements in place.

For further information, see the National VET Data page on the Australian Government Department of Education and Training’s website.

Unduly short courses consultation

The Australian Government Department of Education and Training released a discussion paper following the release of the Report by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) into the issues relating to Unduly Short Courses. The discussion paper includes some questions relating to specific recommendations made in ASQA’s report.  Stakeholders are encouraged to provide feedback. Training Product Reform

In 2016 the COAG Industry and Skills Council (CISC) agreed to explore and develop a case for change to enhance training products so they continue to be relevant in the future and support skills development as technology and industry changes. This work is in partnership with industry and in consultation with the VET sector.

The Australian Government Department of Education and Training have released a Case for Change which proposes enhancements to the design of training products in VET and a discussion paper providing further detail. Stakeholders are invited to provide feedback on the key proposed changes outlined in the discussion paper.
