What are training packages?

A training package is a set of nationally endorsed competency standards, qualifications and assessment guidelines for training, assessing and recognising people's skills. A training package describes the skills and knowledge needed to perform effectively in the workplace.

Training packages are developed by industry to meet the training needs of a specific industry, industry sector or enterprise. Training packages consist of core endorsed components of competency standards, assessment guidelines and qualifications, and optional non-endorsed components of support materials such as learning strategies, assessment resources and professional development materials.

Who can deliver training from training packages?

Only registered training organisations are authorised to deliver training packages qualifications and units of competency. It is the responsibility of the registered training organisation to source and develop its own:

  • teaching;
  • learning; and
  • assessment resources (these resources do not form part of the training package).

How can I find out if there is a Training Package or Units of Competency that will suit the training I want to provide?

All nationally endorsed Training Packages, units of competency and accredited courses are posted on Training.gov.au (TGA).

How can I purchase a Training Package?

Training packages and resources can be purchased from the Industry Skills Councils. For the full list of Industry Skills Councils please visit www.isc.org.au.

Training Package Implementation Guides

Training Package Implementation Guides are a list of guides to Training Packages which provide practitioners information about the hours that the Department of Training and Workforce Development has allocated to each unit of competence and qualification; and model training programs. Implementation Guides also provide information about any special arrangements in WA for delivering each training package and which qualifications can be delivered as apprenticeships and traineeships in WA.

For a list of available implementation guides, visit the WA Department of Training and Workforce Developments website at VETinfoNet
