New RTO Entry Requirements

TAC is increasing scrutiny on new applications for registration from 1 August 2018

The Training Accreditation Council (TAC) assures the quality of training and assessment services provided by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) through effective regulation of the vocational education and training (VET) sector. This includes continual monitoring of the sector in line with TAC's risk management approach.

 

This has led to the introduction of new registration requirements for new entrants to the training market. The new requirements aim to ensure new providers are well placed to provide quality training and assessment services. 

 

Changes to initial registration applications has resulted in some adjustments to renewal of registration and amendment to registration application processes.


Changes and Implementation Schedule

From 1 August 2018:

2-year registration period for initial applications

Initial registration applications received on or after 1 August 2018 will be considered for a registration period of up to 2 years where application requirements have been met and compliance has been demonstrated. 

 

Renewal of Registration Applications

RTOs granted an initial registration period of up to 2 years that apply for re-registration will be subject to a renewal of registration audit. 

 

Strengthening Fit and Proper Person declaration

Applicants seeking initial or renewal of registration will be required to complete a Fit and Proper Person Declaration to be submitted with the application in line with Schedule 3 of the Standards for RTOs.


From 1 October 2018:

Increased evidence requirements for initial applications

The self-assessment tool will include additional requirements for evidence to be provided with an initial registration application. The additional evidence requirements will apply to all initial registration applications received on or after 1 October 2018.

 

Increased evidence requirements for amendment applications

All RTOs seeking to submit an amendment to registration application on or after 1 October 2018 will be required to provide additional evidence to demonstrate compliance against Clause 1.3 to accompany the application.
